Bee Season

First bee of the season. What it collects honey from at this time in Iowa I fear I don't know.

I wonder how intense bee-keeping is? Maybe I'd do better just sticking to planting and caring for pesticide free gardens filled with flowers they like.

If you do decide to play with bees you probably should know about Saint Gobnait, the patron saint of bees and beekeepers. See my homage to her on my blog.

Ooh love the bees, I must admit I was a bit ignorant of which bees did what, but I can recognise a honey bee now :) I watched 'Mary Berry cooks' last night, she visited a bee keeper, who told her that the bee does't live very long, I think she said 6 weeks??? and it will produce just half a teaspoon of honey, it was fascinating, she had thousands of bees. We all need the bees big time! :)

@Jan- Thank you for posting- you are a wonderful book and fine artist! I'm glad to know of your blog and Saint Gobnait, who I will enjoy getting to know better. Great imagery comes to mind!I like the idea that one's soul leaves this earth as a butterfly or a bee...

@Julie- Only 6 weeks to live! I hope it feels longer to them. I get ma' bees mixed up, too! They all have those "tiny, tiny waists" as I good friend of mine once said! I will explore the bee keeping on a small scale and see what is involved. Bee power!
